Elder Abuse: The Status of Current Knowledge

The rapid emergence of elderly abuse as a social problem has led to the public dissemination of data derived from exploratory research. This paper assesses the state of knowledge of elderly abuse and examines the limitations of current research on the extent, patterns, and causes of elderly abuse. Suggestions are offered to researchers and practitioners like:
- Be aware that elderly are abused by family members
- Use existing domestic violence services.
- Support and supporting caretakers.
- Avoid applying myths.
